On December 20th, Chen Shuangwei, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Shenyang Municipal Government, and his work team visited the Uruguayan Embassy in Beijing and held talks with the Chargé d'affaires Martin Orlando on promoting economic and trade cooperation and deepening cultural exchanges.

Director Chen  said that this year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Uruguay and the fifth anniversary of Uruguay's participation in the "the Belt and Road" initiative. The meeting between the two heads of state has uplifted bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, initiating a new chapter in China Uruguay relations, and further pointed out the direction for local and people-to-people exchanges.Recently, Lyu Zhicheng, Deputy Secretary of Shenyang Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, met with the visiting Governor of Florida, Uruguay, Guillermo Lopez, and his delegation. They had in-depth discussion on further strengthening economic and trade cooperation, cultural exchanges, and sister city relations.Shenyang is an important central city in Northeast China, an national advanced equipment manufacturing base, and a national renowned historical and cultural city. Currently, it is deeply implementing the important speech spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping at the symposium on promoting comprehensive revitalization of Northeast China in the new era, targeting the overarching goal of building a national central city and an international central city in Northeast Asia, focusing on building "one hub, four centers", expanding high-level opening up, achieving high-quality development, and striving to be the "vanguard" in building the "six positioning" of Liaoning in the new era.Uruguayan enterprises are welcomed to visit and invest in Shenyang. Shenyang will continue to create a first-class business environment which is market-oriented and law-based, and further enhance quality and efficient services. In 2024, we will hold events such as the "Peace Cup" International Youth Football Invitational and the International Youth Summer Camp. We hope that the Embassy could be strongly supportive in strengthening youth exchanges, deepening sister city cooperation, advocating for Shenyang, inviting the Uruguayan national football team to visit Shenyang and inviting the Uruguayan Ambassador to visit Shenyang at time of convenience next year, jointly promoting exchanges and cooperation to a new level, and contributing a Shenyang chapter for the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Uruguay.

Martin Orlando thanked Shenyang for the considerate arrangements for Florida  delegation. He stated that Uruguay attaches great importance to developing relations with China and will facilitate more Uruguayan delegations to visit Shenyang, promoting practical cooperation in multiple fields. He sincerely invited delegations from various fields such as economy, trade, culture, etc. from Shenyang to visit Uruguay, and study industries such as agriculture, animal husbandry, and horse racing, organize agricultural machinery enterprises to participate in important agricultural exhibitions, and fill the demand in the Uruguayan market. The Embassy will actively promote sister city Florida to participate in activities such as the "Peace Cup" International Youth Football Invitational and International Youth Summer Camp, deepening exchanges and practical cooperation between the two sides in sister cities, people-to-people exchanges, sports, and other fields.
