will be born

in the theme park

of Hailanxing Dream Castle

in Shenbei New District.

This will be the first

naturally bred harbor seal

in Shenyang.

The mother harbor seal

named "Xiaopang",

is 5 years old

and comes from Dalian.

It weighs 100 kg.

"Xiaopang" has been pregnant

for 10 months,

and it is the first time

it has conceived a baby.

Harbor seal is the national first-class protected animal, mainly growing in the wild cold zone.

Due to the small mating cardinal number of the harbor seals in the park, as well as the polygamy of the harbor seals and the interference of man-made sounds, many uncertain factors have been brought to the mating.

Harbor seals generally give birth in a quiet and dark environment, with one cub per litter. For this reason, the park specially creates a quiet environment isolated from man-made sounds during the estrus period of the harbor seal.

After discovering that "Xiaopang" has a bulge in the abdomen and signs of pregnancy such as increased appetite, retching and reduced activity, the trainer added a variety of nutrients to it, such as capelin and folic acid required for pregnancy.

Since the harbor seal entered the breeding period, the trainer transferred "Xiaopang" who would deliver the baby to a separate, spacious and bright breeding house, observing its diet and exercise status every day and monitoring the fetal movement.
