As this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of sister-city relationship between Shenyang and Daejeon, Shenyang and Daejeon held the 2023 China-ROK Online Go-chess Match on July 8 to celebrate the 10th anniversary.

The event was jointly held by the Foreign Affairs Office of Shenyang Municipal People’s Government, Shenyang People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (Shenyang PAFFC) and Daejeon Support Center for Foreign Residents, co-organized by Shenyang Chess Academy and Daejeon Go-chess Association, and greatly supported by Shenyang Sports Administration.The players greeted each other in Korean and Chinese online, saying “Hello, Daejeon!” and “Hello, Shenyang” and the warm greetings helped to bring the two sides closer to each other. The match has written a new chapter of friendship between young people of both countries. Liu Zhenning, Deputy Secretary-General of Shenyang PAFFC, presented the prizes to the winners and extended congratulations to them.

Liu Donghai, Deputy Director of Shenyang FAO said in his speech that Shenyang attaches great importance to friendly relations with the Republic of Korea. Since Shenyang and Daejeon established sister-city relationship in 2013, the two cities have undertaken proactive and pragmatic exchanges and cooperation in multiple areas such as economy and trade, culture, tourism, education and youth exchange. Having been focusing on the goal of building itself into a national central city and an international central city in Northeast Asia, Shenyang has been building a new opening-up gateway to Northeast Asia and striving to make new breakthroughs in the all-round revitalization of Shenyang in the new era. The match has further deepened the friendly ties between Shenyang and Daejeon, enhanced mutual understanding and affinity between the two peoples through diversified people-to-people exchange, given full play to the principle of facilitating governmental exchange with people-to-people exchange, and made contributions to the sound and stable development of China-ROK friendly and cooperative relations which echos the call of the new era.
