Shenyang Establishes Friendly and Cooperative Relationship with Paju, South Korea

From June 12th to 13th, Kim Kyungil, Mayor of Paju, South Korea, led a delegation to visit Shenyang and attended the opening ceremony of the Second Liaoning International Friendship Cities Conference. At the meeting, Shenyang and Paju jointly signed an agreement to establish friendly and cooperative relationship, the number of international sister cities of our city has increased to 104. Both sides stated that they will take it as an opportunity to actively promote friendly exchanges and practical cooperation in fields such as culture and tourism, economy and trade, science and technology, and education, enhance friendly mutual trust, promote common development, and contribute local forces to building a healthy, stable, and continuously deepening China-ROK relationship.
When talking with the Paju delegation, Liu Jie, Deputy Secretary-General of Shenyang Municipal Government, comprehensively introduced the industrial development and foreign exchange of Shenyang, and focused on promoting leading enterprises such as BMW Brilliance. He said that as a national historical and cultural city, Shenyang has a profound cultural heritage, solid industrial foundation, rich cultural, sports and tourism resources, and active foreign exchanges. It is a happy city suitable for living, working and tourism. It is hoped with the formal establishment of friendly and cooperative relationship, cultural exchanges will be strengthened, practical cooperation in various fields will be further deepened.
Lee Sunggeun, the representative of Paju, said that Shenyang is a prosperous, developing and vibrant city, which left a deep impression on him. He hopes to take this visit as an opportunity to further narrow the distance between the two cities and promote bilateral cooperation to a deeper and broader field. It is expected that the two cities will carry out practical and sustainable exchanges and cooperation in many aspects such as economy and trade, culture, education, and tourism, and work together to achieve win-win development.
Paju is located in the northwest of Gyeonggi Province, with an area of about 672.6 square kilometers and a population of about 530,000. It focuses on developing industries such as tourism, publishing culture, electronic information, and biomedicine.
