From August 29 to September 1, Thomas Wagner, honorary president of the Swiss-Chinese Association and former mayor of Zurich, and his delegation visited Shenyang. Lyu Zhicheng, deputy secretary of the CPC Shenyang Municipal Committee and mayor of Shenyang, met with the delegation. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on deepening practical cooperation in multiple fields, and together witnessed the signings of a cooperation agreement between Shenyang People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Swiss-Chinese Association, as well as an MOU between Shenyang Natural Resources Bureau and LEP Consultant AG.
Lyu Zhicheng extended his welcome to Thomas Wagner and his delegation. He noted that Shenyang boasts a profound cultural heritage, a solid industrial foundation, abundant innovation resources, and distinct advantages in openness. The city is currently thoroughly implementing the important speeches and directives by President Xi Jinping, anchoring its goal of building itself into an international central city in Northeast Asia, and striving to create a new forefront for opening-up. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland. Shenyang has always attached great importance to friendly exchanges with all sectors of Switzerland and hopes to strengthen communication and coordination with Swiss-Chinese Association. The city aims to continuously deepen practical cooperation in cultural tourism, winter sports, bilateral trade, urban construction, sci-tech innovation, and other fields to achieve win-win development.
Thomas Wagner stated that Shenyang and Switzerland have extensive areas of exchange. The Swiss-Chinese Association will fully leverage its role as a bridge, promoting Shenyang and encouraging more Swiss enterprises to invest and establish businesses in the city. This will deepen people-to-people exchanges between Shenyang and Switzerland, elevating bilateral communication and cooperation to new heights.
The delegation also visited the Shenyang Imperial Palace, wholly-owned subsidiary of Burckhardt Compression Holding AG, Shenyang Yuanda Compressor Co., Ltd., and Shenyang Jianzhu University. Additionally, they signed an MOU on cooperation with Shenyang Jianzhu University.
The Swiss-Chinese Association was founded in 1945 by prominent figures from Swiss political, business, and academic circles. Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, the association has long been dedicated to promoting friendly exchanges between China and Switzerland in areas such as economic development, cultural interactions, and local cooperation. Thomas Wagner has visited China over 130 times and has been honored with awards such as the "Envoy of People's Friendship" and the "Chinese Government Friendship Award".
